Speaking to the media in a recent interview, Eguavoen stated his priority is giving back to football.
What Eguavoen said about Super Eagles job
“My priority is giving back to football, especially to the young ones coming up. We played through the youth ranks, and in my role as technical director, my colleagues and I work to help young players climb that ladder to the top. I love that job,” the 58-year-old was quoted by Brila.net.
Speaking about taking over Nigeria job permanently, he sai; “The Super Eagles job I’m doing right now, if I were to switch permanently, it’s something I’d need to sit down, reflect, and think deeply about because it’s not a small job.”
Eguavoen further stressed the importance of stability and patience in the role, which he described as a difficult one.
”It will be a tough one. You have to give me long term contract with patience and clauses in that contract because winning is not guaranteed every week or day.
“You will give me time to tweak the team till I find what I want.“
“If they’re going to give me a long-term contract with guaranteed patience, why not? Otherwise, I don’t know.”
Ogunmodede, Fidelis To Take Over CHAN Eagles
Eguavoen also spoke about the upcoming African Championship qualifier matches. As the Super Eagles coach, he is also saddled with handling the CHAN( home-based) senior national team.
According to the AFCON winner, the duties will be handled by his deputies Daniel Ogunmodede and Fidelis Illechukwu.
“I’ve spoken with my bosses, and that’s why we brought Ilechukwu, Daniel, and also Baruwa on board.
“These coaches have been in the league for many years, so even with their eyes closed they will be able to bring out 35, 40 names without blinking.” Eguavoen told Brila.net.

“They know the players well because they face them week in, week out. They will be fully in charge and I will only come to supervise because I still have work to do in the office.
“Bringing them on board was a very good thing. They know the players in the terrain so picking out players shouldn’t be any problem.”
Draw for the CHAN Championship will take place next week Wednesday.
