It was a tough encounter for the 2023 AFCON finalists who came from behind to earn a draw. Header from Benin’s Tijani was the only difference between both sides in the first half.
With just few minutes remaining to stoppage time, Victor Osimhen reacted first to a Moses Simon’s cross to equalise.
Take Not Of These Three Important Takeaways From The Super Eagles AFCON Game
First, Auxerre defender and newcomer Gabriel Osho earned his Super Eagles debut. The 26-year-old former Luton Town player started alongside William Troost-Ekong and Calvin Bassey. It was indeed a thing of joy for the England-born, who was substituted at half-time.
Secondly, Victor Osimhen officially becomes the second highest goalscorer in the history of the Super Eagles. The 25-year-old scored his 23rd goal in the colours of the Eagles. The former Olympique Lille man will now seek to usurp holder Rashid Yekini.
Finally, the Super Eagles lacked creativity in the midfield. The link-up between the defenders and midfielders on most occasions were poor; same is between the midfielders and the forwards. Coach Augustine Eguavoen is expected to tackle and bring to an end issues associated with creativity in time.
