AFCON 25: Super Eagles Stars Fires Ferocious Strike Against Benin Republic

Super Eagles expressed readiness to take on the Cheetahs of Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo; npflupdates.com reports.

The Super Eagles will kickstart it’s 2025 AFCON qualification against their neighbours Benin Republic next month in Uyo.

Recall, the three-time African champions earlier in the year suffered a 2-1 loss against the opposition in Abidjan during a 2026 FIFA world cup qualifier fixture. And an aftermath of the game led to the resignation of coach Finidi George; leaving the Nigerian team without a permanent coach.

Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi in a recent interview believe the result between the two sides will be different this time around.

According to the combative midfielder, the team is aware of its shortcomings, and is ready to make it straight.

How Super Eagles Will Approach AFCON Qualifiers

“We know we haven’t done as well as we wanted in the World Cup qualifiers but we’re ready to make things right in Uyo,” Ndidi was quoted by DAILY POST Nigeria.

“They [Benin] had their win in Abidjan but we’ll see what happens in Uyo. Don’t worry; we’re prepared.

Similarly, Fulham FC playmaker Alexander Iwobi, agreed that the team has the qualities to qualify for any tournament it engages in.

“Of course, there is still a lot to fight for. We have a lot to prove,” Iwobi said during an interview with the Super Eagles media team in London.

“I always say we have a lot of quality in the team but hopefully we can kick on and get the points we need to qualify because it is something that we all want to achieve as a nation, we have the players to do so, we just need to believe and make things happen.”

The former Arsenal midfielder also acknowledged there’s element of pressure from fans; but noted that the players also hold themselves to the same high standards.

“Of course, the same way fans and everyone demands from us, we the players, we demand from ourselves as well because we know the quality we have, and we know how we do well for our club sides. We just have to bring the form to Nigeria.”
