A player invited to the Golden Eaglets camp ahead of the AFCON U-17 tournament has said he was asked to pay bribe for a spot in the national team.
Ahead of the Golden Eaglets trip to Germany for a training tour, an invitee has opened up on happenings in the camp.
This is not the first time disturbing reports about bribe for a spot in Nigeria teams is being reported.
Recall npflupdates reported that some Flying Eagles paid two million naira for a spot in the team that traveled to AFCON.
Also, a former Flying Eagles winner Emmanuel Sarki revealed three years ago he was asked to pay bribe. So that he can get a spot in the Super Eagles.
According to this player who do not want his names in print, he was asked to pay for a bribe. So he can be shortlisted for the upcoming tournament in Algeria.
Because he failed to dance to the tune of the coaches, he was replaced by another. And he was told that he failed MRI test.
What he said about bribe for a spot:
“Everybody in the camp can testify that I’m a very good player. Some are still in shock that I was not shortlisted,” he told npflupdates correspondent Tuesday morning.
“Two days before Wilfred Ndidi visited our camp, a backroom staff approached me to ask for a bribe. He called it stipend, two million Naira. I told him I don’t have such money because I’m still a grassroot player.
“And the staff told me to talk to my agent who brought me. He told me that any agent who can get me into the camp, is connected. And can take care of the bills.”
Speaking further, “I was later told that I and others who couldn’t pay the money will be removed. One of us from Benin is already gone.”
“It’s not fair, when we speak out people don’t believe us. If I ever leave this country for football, I’ll not honour any international duty,” he concluded.
The Golden Eaglets will leave for Germany in the coming days on a trading tour. The Nduka Ugbade boys have dominated all the local clubs they faced in testing games.
