The former Ajax Amsterdam winger was in charge of the Super Eagles for only games (2026 world cup qualifiers); losing one and drawing the other. He’d later drop his resignation letter, after it was widely speculated in the media that the NFF will be seeking the services of an expatriate Technical Adviser for the Super Eagles.
Reacting on the issues that surrounds Finidi and the NFF, coach Daniel who helped Reno Stars qualify for the 2024/2025 CAF champions League said it’s a sign of disrespect to local coaches.
According to him, the NFF didn’t provide full support which teh former Real Betis winger needed to floruish.
NFF failed to provide full support to Finidi
“It’s an affront to the dignity of local coaches. Finidi was a thing of joy for us. I was so happy (even as the secretary of the league club managers), we wanted the best for him, but look at the way he (Finidi) was “jet” out, there was not enough support. If you want a coach to do well, give him better support. If any job is coming from the National team to any of the local coaches, there must be total support for the coach to excel,” the Remo Stars coach was quoted by Soccernet Nigeria.
Speaking on why he and his counterparts in the local league do not coach in Europe, Ijaball as he was fondly called cited lack of respect.
He also revealed his ability and willingness to serve as Super Eagles head coach whenever the opportunity comes calling.

“The truth is, if opportunity comes, it is a clarion call, this is our country and we can’t run away. I had the opportunity to stay in Europe, but what use is that if I can’t come back to my country to make things happen? No matter what I do, these guys will not respect us there, so the best thing is to bring this knowledge home and try to see how we all can benefit from it. So, if the opportunity comes, today or tomorrow, there is no room to say no. The national team is bigger than any one of us,” the former C.D., Feirense assistant manager concluded.
