A former Spain midfielder and Bayer Leverkusen head coach, Xabi Alonso reveals his side is prepared take on opponents if Victor Boniface and other AFCON-bound players travel for the tournament in January npflupdates.com reports.
Victor Boniface and teammate Nathan Tella will likely for the 2023 edition of the African Cup Of Nations (AFCON), which will be held in Ivory Coast next year.
The players’ absence according to some football analysts will greatly affect the Performances of Bayer Leverkusen who remain unbeaten this season across all competitions.
Boniface, Tella could be out for a month for the 2023 AFCON
Boniface since joining Bayer last August, has scored eight times and provided six assists in fourteen games. Also, the 22-year-old has scored four times and provided one assist in the 2023/2024 UEFA Europa League tournament.
On the other hand, Tella who recently made his debut for the Super Eagles is also expected to be at the AFCON. The former Burnley winger, has done very well for Bayer since joining last summer.
However, Alonso in a post-match presser told reporters that his side is prepared ahead of time. And as a matter of fact cannot feel the impact of the absence of the players, as the club is fortified with enough arsenals.
“That’s the game calendar,” the former Real Madrid star was quoted by Daily Post Nigeria.
“We are losing some players, but we have seen that all players can play. We will decide so that we have a competitive team.
“I’m not crying. I’m not a victim. We have enough players.”
Nigeria is seeded in Group A alongside host nation Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau. The Jose Peseiro’s boys will look to win a fourth title after winning a third a decade ago.
