The Falconets on Sunday defeated FIFA U-20 World cup qualifier opponent Burundi in Dar es Salaam.

It was a keenly contested game as the alleged underdogs Burundi frustrated goal-scoring efforts of the Nigerian girls early into the game.

Nigeria were in possession of the ball at least 55 percent of the times, but saw their goal-scoring chances thwarted by the opposition.

Nigeria was able to find a way past the opposition goalkeeper after playmaker Janet Akekoromowei converted from the spot.

Nigeria will play host to Burundi at the prestigious Moshood Abiola Stadium Abuja, later in the week. And a win or draw against the East Africans will have the Falconets clinch a ticket at the 2024 FIFA U-20 women’s world cup tournament.

The three-time African champions played out a 1-1 draw with Equato-Guinea on its Matchday one at the Ebimpe Stadium, Abidjan.
