Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho may no longer travel with the rest of the squad for the 2023 Africa Cup Of Nations, AFCON, tournament in Cote d’Ivoire npflupdates.com reports.
Super Eagles coach José Peseiro Friday released his final 25-man squad for the upcoming AFCON tournament; and Kelechi Iheanacho was included.

However, the former Manchester City forward may no longer make it to Ivory Coast, as he’s currently sidelined with injury.

“Iheanacho has a muscle problem two days ago,” Enzo Maresca Leicester City’s manager was quoted by Leicester Mercury after the EFL game at the Cardiff City Stadium on Thursday.
According to the tactician, the 26-year-old will further be assessed by City’s medical team to see the level of the injury, which will have a direct effect on his availability for the AFCON.
“We are still waiting to see if it’s something important or a matter of days. But I don’t think he will be able for the next one (against Huddersfield).
“We don’t know yet (if it will affect his Afcon call-up). It depends on the injury. If it’s an important injury, he has no chance to go. If it’s not important, he can go,” he added.
Meanwhile, the King Power Stadium is expected to miss five players if African extraction for January and potentially for the first half of February.

Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is also in the Super Eagles squad, while Patson Daka is expected to lead the Zambia line-up. Abdul Fatawu is in the provisional Ghana squad and may make the cut for the tournament.
Harry Souttar will be representing Australia at the upcoming Asian Cup, which also takes place next month.
