Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly advises former teammate and Napoli forward Victor Osimhen to always follow his choice.
Koulibaly made this assertion when he weighed into the controversies concerning Osimhen’s move away from Napoli. Osimhen according to pundits and football analyst is expected to leave Napoli this summer. And this, is after helping the team win its first ever Scudetto title in more than three decades.
And Koulibaly who shared the same dressing room with Osimhen at Napoli, is of the opinion that the 24-year-old goes the way of his heart.
A lot of top European clubs have expressed interest in the signature of the Nigerian. But it seems the former Olympique Lille forward, will stay put at Napoli. And this maybe as a result of the humongous €120M price tag slapped on him by Napoli.
Osimhen presented with a word of advise by Koulibaly
“Victor is an important player, among the best in the world,” Koulibaly was quoted by Punch Nigeria.
“Gennaro Gattuso helped him, Luciano Spalletti was a turning point for him. And now he needs nobody. He must feel free to choose without listening to anyone else. That’s the only way not to have regrets.
“Napoli are favourites because they won the Serie A title with a big margin. But everyone will be waiting for them and everyone will make new signings. Serie A is improving and the three European finalists showed it. It takes time when you change coach, but Rudi Garcia knows the Italian league well. And it’s a great challenge for him and he can do great things even if it all depends on the market.”
Speculations has it that Osimhen is currently being targeted by a Saudi Arabia outfit, Al Hilal. And a move will make him usurp Kalidou as the highest paid African footballer.
And speaking about his spell at Chelsea, and move to Saudi Arabia; Koulibaly feels he was underrated by club’s coach. Hence he opted to go where his value will be appreciated.
“I prefer a place where I am wanted and at the centre of the project and can be an example for young players,” he continued.
“The Premier League is fantastic and there are great players. They expected the Koulibaly of Napoli. But I think my season was not so bad. I needed time and in one year I couldn’t prove what I wanted because of the coach’s and club’s choices.”
Great advice
