Flying Eagles head coach Isah Ladan Bosso remains upbeat that his team will qualify for their group at the upcoming FIFA U-20 world cup.
The Flying Eagles was placed in a group widely regarded as ‘Group of Death’ by football pundits. Nigeria en-route to qualifying from the Group D will do battle against Dominican Republic, Italy and five-time champions Brazil.
Pundits across Nigeria expressed fear, whether or not the national team will make it out of the group. And that’s because of the team’s not-too-good performance at the AFCON U-20 in Egypt few months ago.
At the AFCON U-20, Nigeria managed to achieve a podium finish by defeating Tunisia to win bronze medal. But the performance of the team generally is not fair, especially in the team’s attacking department. Because, the team’s strikers managed a total of 2 goals in six games.
However, Ladan Bosso who opened the Flying Eagles camp this week is upbeat his team will progress to next round.

Ladan Bosso Remains Upbeat Nigeria Will Qualify From Group
“Yes, many people have described our group as tough. But I believe that will get us to be at our best right from the onset,” Bosso told SCORENigeria.
According to Ladan Bosso, the World Cup is not going to be an easy outing. And his boys are going to give their best, and won’t be relaxed or complacent.
“The World Cup was never going to be easy, but now it also means we cannot afford to be relaxed or complacent, we have to come with everything right from our first match.
“The reward for all our efforts will be qualification to the knockout rounds of the tournament.”
Also, Bosso explained that foreign-based players are expected to hit the national team Abuja camp next week. And a look into the list of invited foreign-based pros confirmed that AC Milan’s Victor Eletu will join the team. Also, Rangers Glasgow forward Thompson Ishaka, and Debrecni midfielder, Hamzat Ojediran are all expected to join the team.
The Flying Eagles will play it’s first game on 21 May 2023, against the Dominican Republic, at Estadio Malvinas Argentinas, Mendoza. They will trade tackle with Italy two days later, still in the same city of Mendoza.
Their final group game will be against perennial rival, and 5-time champions Brazil.
