It was as a keen contested fixture, as both teams failed to find the back of the net during the first half of the fixture; even though, the Nerazzuri dominated the entire period.
Lookman scores on last Serie A fixture of 2023
The Blue and Black boys piled on the pressure shortly after the restart of the game; and it paid off with one minute remaining before the hour mark, when Lookman gathered from Scamacca and beat Falcone with a daisy-cutter into the far bottom corner.
Gasperini’s men went ahead to create two more scoring chances in the following minutes as right-back Zappacosta’s right-foot shot was wide; while Scamacca was denied by on-rushing Falcone.
Lookman will join the Nerazzurri when they get back to work tomorrow, Sunday 31 December, with a behind-closed-doors morning training session.
However, the Nigerian may not be available for selection for a Coppa Italia Frecciarossa tie against Sassuolo which is scheduled for Wednesday, 3 January at the Gewiss Stadium, as he ought to have joined Super Eagles United Arab Emirates (UAE) camp ahead of the 2023 AFCON tournament in Cote d’Ivoire.
