The Super Eagles of Nigeria without a permanent head coach will begin it’s 2025 AFCON qualifiers next month; npflupdates.com reports.
The three-time African champions is expected to start their campaign with victory against Benin Republic and Rwanda; but, without a manager in charge it will appear a herculean task.
Recent reports have linked ex Sweden national team coach Janne Andersson to the national team. Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation NFF, is yet to make any official statement in that regards.
With a Super Eagles coach set to be announced this weekend as noted by the Federation’s Technical Director, Austin Egueavoen after a committee meeting Abuja last weekend; the Super Eagles is expected to be managed by an interim gaffer.
New Super Eagles coach may not handle Benin and Rwanda games
“There is no way the new coach can take charge of the Super Eagles for the games against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
“The two games are less than three weeks away,” a NFF source told Daily POST.
According to the source, the new coach will be coming into a new environment, and with players he’s not worked with in the past. So it is poised to be a challenging task for him to take charge in less than three weeks to competitive games. Hence, the need for a local manager with knowledge of the team.
“He will be coming into a new environment and he has not worked with the players before. He can’t be saddled with the responsibility of inviting players to camp now.
“For now, everything is leaning towards the technical director (Eguavoen) leading the team for the two games.
