The Nigeria Football Federation NFF, dismisses speculations it’s planning to sack Finidi George as Super Eagles head coach; npflupdates.com reports.
The NFF few weeks ago announced Finidi as the Super Eagles head coach, and charged him with the responsibilities of qualifying the three-time African champions for the 2026 world cup.
Finidi in his first game last weekend was held to a 1-1 draw in Uyo by arch rivals South Africa. And, when Nigerians thought the former Enyimba FC gaffer will get his first win as Super Eagles manager, he lost to Benin Republic.

Angered by the results, Nigerians and Super Eagles supporters across various social media platforms called for the sacking of the 53-year-old.
Meanwhile, a former African player of the year Victor Ikpeba who’s also a member of the NFF Technical Committee drums support for his former teammate.
According to Ikpeba, Nigerians wanted a local coach; so, the NFF gave them the man who’s best for the job in Finidi George.
What the NFF said about Finidi George’s performances
“Nigerians asked for a local coach and Finidi was found to be the best man to lead the Super Eagles at this time,” Ikpeba, a member of the NFF technical committee was quoted by SCORENigeria .
“The technical committee chose the best in the interest of the country.
“Finidi will therefore continue to enjoy the full support of the NFF despite the recent results posted by the Super Eagles.”
Speaking further, the Olympic gold medalist, insisted that tye Super Eagles can still pull a drama and qualify for the world cup despite having just three points from a possible twelve.
“Mathematically, the Super Eagles can still qualify for the World Cup, it’s not over for us.
“We can win our remaining six matches next year to qualify for the World Cup.”
The former AS Monaco further demanded the players step up to do this.
“The players have become too comfortable, they now have to step up and take full responsibility,” he urged.
“The talent is there in the team for them to turn things around next year.
“History will be kind to them when they fight back and qualify Nigeria.

“We missed the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and it was a special tournament.
“The next World Cup to be hosted by the United States of America, Canada and Mexico will be even much more special and they cannot afford to miss it.”
