So far season, Tella has endured less than Three Hundred minutes of action. And starting only once for the Red and Black this season.
Speaking to German daily BILD, Tella revealed he’s confused as to why coach Xabi Alonso would prefer to play him out of his natural position.
The 25-year-old further revealed his willingness to give his best whenever given opportunity to play.
Super Eagles Star frustrated with club’s tactics
“I had to play as a full-back. That’s a part of the game that I don’t fully understand yet. But I’m trying to learn, to improve, and everyone knows that.
“I’ve always said that I’m an attacker. I’m not going to lie and say that I’m a full-back. But when you play in a team like this, where there are no clear wingers, you have to make sacrifices and do what’s best for the team,” he said.
“And when I play as a full-back, I do it as well as I can. When I play further forward – which I prefer, then I also do my best.”
Speaking further, the England-born dribble-king, stated he is frustrated not getting enough playing time.
Regardless the Super Eagles midfielder remained upbeat he’d get more game time post his discussion with Alonso.
Tella unhappy with lack of game time at Bayer Leverkusen
“It’s frustrating, to be honest. But I spoke to the coach. He assured me that I will get opportunities and that I have to be patient.
