Former Nigeria international winger Finidi George reveals the main reason why he didn’t succeed as coach of the Super Eagles; npflupdates.com reports.

The Super Eagles is yet to have substantive coach since Finidi’s resignation few months ago.

Finidi resigned from his position citing lack of support from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Speaking in a recent interview, the Rivers United coach, revealed lack of preparation for the games against Bafana Bafana of South Africa in Uyo; and the Cheetahs of Benin Republic in Abidjan.

The Super Eagles under Finidi George drew their 2026 world cup qualifier against South Africa in Uyo. The three-time African champions will later go ahead to lose against Gernot Rohr’s Cheetahs of Benin Republic in Abidjan few days later.

Finidi reveals why he failed as Super Eagles coach

“I wanted us to open camp a little earlier because we knew the season had ended, and the FA initially agreed but later changed their minds,” Finidi said.

“I wanted the camp to open on May 26, but they said it wasn’t possible because some players were already on holiday, which was very strange to me.”

“If you’re not fit enough at that level, no matter the tactics, you can’t perform at your best,” Finidi explained; adding that the team’s concentration was lacking, which resulted in them conceding cheap goals.

“Most players didn’t show up. The intensity in friendly matches often differs from crucial qualifiers.”

In another story, Sparta Prague forward Victor Olatunji expresses interest in working with the Super Eagles.

According to the player, it’s the ultimate goal of every player to once in their career represent their various countries.

“It is a big goal for any young player, especially for us Nigerians. We are proud to play for our country. Just wearing a green jersey and an eagle emblem will give a player motivation.
