Some fans of the Flying Eagles of Nigeria have mockingly asked the team to ‘Go to Court’ shortly after the FIFA U-20 World Cup tournament draw.
The draw for next month’s FIFA U-20 World Cup tournament was on Friday 21 April 2023 made in Zurich.
“Dear football fans, dear friends, queridos amigos. It gives me great, great pleasure to address you before the draw for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Argentina 2023. The 23rd edition of this wonderful tournament which gives us a glimpse of the stars of the future.” FIFA President Gianni Infantino told FIFA.com prior to the beginning of the draw.
“Congratulations to all 23 teams who have qualified. And thank you to Argentina and particularly, the Argentinian Football Association and its President, ‘Chiqui’ Tapia. As well as the governmental authorities for staging this fantastic event. Muchas gracias, Argentina!”
By the end of the draw, Nigeria was placed in the same Group D as Italy and Dominican Republic. And also in the group is it’s perennial rival Brazil.
Flying Eagles qualified for the World Cup after reaching the semi-final of the AFCON U-20 tournament played earlier in Egypt.
And fans of the national team have in the past criticised coach Ladan Bosso’s type of player selection. According to them, Bosso isn’t recruiting the best legs for big tournaments, hence the team’s poor performances.
Because, in six matches at the AFCON U-20, strikers of the Flying Eagles only managed to score 2 goals.
Reacting after the draw by FIFA, fans of the national team, mockingly asked them to approach a court of law. And that will be to make an appeal, if they’re displeased by the team selection.
‘Go To Court’ If Aggrieved Over FIFA U-20 Grouping
On Facebook, Chinyere Chigboogu, said, “Now is the time for the NFF to go to court and appeal the draw. I don’t see the team progressing out of the group.”
“With Bosso in charge, flying eagle maybe in the bossom(bottom) of the group. A country where coaches are not selected on merit but on region. No one should raise his or her hope in this tournament,” Facebook user Omololu Olaitan said.

“Please don’t raise the hopes of Nigerians by over hyping this flying Eagles team. We have watched this team play, and we know that the team is not a very strong side. Let’s be humble and take each game as it comes,”Leo John retorted on Facebook.
