Hopes of supporters calling for an indigenous coach to head the Super Eagles may have hit the rocks after a member of the Technical Committee responsible for review of CVs of interested candidates speculated a foreign coach replacement for José Peseiro; npflupdates.com reports.
The NFF and Peseiro parted ways shortly after the 2023 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Ivory Coast. Though Peseiro met the semifinal target issued by the NFF, he opted to leave the job with several opportunities lurking.

In a bid to securing another capable hands for the national team, the football governing advertised vacancies, calling on qualified candidates to send in their applications.
“Attention passionate and proven football coaches. The Nigeria Football Federation is seeking a visionary leader to lead our senior men’s national team, the mighty Super Eagles.
“This is your chance to lead a team steeped in history and guide them towards even greater glory on the international stage. Are you ready to answer the call?
“Here’s what we’re looking for in our next Super Eagles head coach. Top-tier qualifications: You’ll possess the necessary coaching qualifications to lead a national team.
“Elite Experience – proven experience managing football at the highest level is essential. A successful track record of leading teams to victories is a must while not mandatory, knowledge of African football will be a strong positive,” a part of the banner released by the NFF read.
Sources close to the federation reported that about Forty foreigners did apply for the job; though most Nigerians are clamouring for an indigenous coach.
Meanwhile, a member of the committee in charge of the recruitment, revealed that there are plans by the NFF to hire a foreign coach.
What a NFF committee said about new Super Eagles coach
According to the member who pleaded anonymity, the current Super Eagles is way bigger than any indigenous coach. So, it’s better to seek for a foreign, well experienced manager.
“I have nothing against indigenous coaches, but I will say that the person we need at the moment is a foreign coach with the prerequisite experience to handle the Super Eagles. He must be the type of coach who will come and support in the overall development of our football.

“The Super Eagles as presently constituted are too big for the indigenous coaches that Nigerians are clamouring for. They are not bad coaches, but they are not yet at the level that they can effectively handle the senior national team,” the Technical committee member was quoted by Leadership Nigeria.

“If you talk to most of my colleagues in the committee, they will tell you the samething. Most of us are for a foreign coach for the Super Eagles. I believe the NFF will see reason with some of us on this matter,” the very influential member of the NFF Technical Committee said.
Recall that the Technical Committee recently met in Abuja to scrutinise the applications received by the NFF.
