Coach of the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria for the AFCON U-17 tournament has vowed that the crew did not employ bribe for-a-spot as been speculated.
Speculations spread last weekend that some players in the Golden Eaglets team coughed out two million Naira for a spot in the squad. The Golden Eaglets are currently camping in Constantine ahead of their Zambia clash on Sunday.
And a coach in team who do not want his name in prints confirmed to npflupdates in a chat that no bribe was collected.
According to the coach, players were selected based on merit. And that’s because they wanted to groom a long lasting footballers for Nigeria.

“No. And you know that’s not true,” he said when asked if they employed a bribe-for-spot.

“I know stories like this will come up. But tell them, their plans have failed. What we want is groom a long lasting footballers in Nigeria. And that was why we went for the talent and money.”
The experienced tactician said he wouldn’t know if such stories exist at other levels of the national teams. But it certainly doesn’t exist at the U-17 levels.
“I wouldn’t know if any national team coach, take bribe to offer players a spot in his team. And I can tell you that, some of these stories are from mischief-makers,” he added.
Meanwhile a Golden Eaglets player, Light Eke, in an interview remained upbeat that Nigeria will do well at the AFCON.
“Based on the preparations, I know that we are ready. We have Zambia, South Africa, these are very good opponents. We will remain focused on getting good results in our games,” Light Eke was quoted by Totorinews Nigeria.

“Our strength is to play according to coahes’ instructions. We will be compact and work hard together as a team.
“We will give our best to get the result that we need against Zambia on Sunday,” he said.
In the group stage, Nigeria will after facing Zambia, come up against Morocco and perennial rival South Africa.
