Alessandro Odobo will provide options for Nigeria at the World Cup

The camp of the Flying Eagles will witness a big boost with the arrival of Poland-based forward Alessandro Odobo.

The invitation of the forward was made public by media outlets in Nigeria Tuesday afternoon. And according to reliable sources the teenager will arrive Nigeria before weekend.

Flying Eagles head coach Ladan Bosso, with the invitation of Odobo is fulfilling part of his promises. Because after the AFCON U-20 tournament in Egypt, Bosso promised he will bring in fresh legs in key areas of his team especially in the attack.

At the AFCON in Egypt, Flying Eagles suffered in front of goal. Strikers of the team only managed a total of two goals in Six matches. But, they managed to qualify for the World Cup, and achieved a podium finish, winning the bronze medal.

Alessandro Odobo was born in Rome, Italy, to Nigerian parents. And he’s eligible to represent Nigeria through his parents. And also to represent Italy via his place of birth. But it seems Nigeria beat Italy to his signature by handing him a national team call-up.

Sources revealed that the former Wacker Insbruck forward was introduced to Bosso by former Nigeria international Yakubu Aiyegbeni.

Yakubu Aiyegbeni in his time played for the Super Eagles of Nigeria from 2002 to 2012. He was capped 57 times, scoring 21 times for the national team. He played club football in the English Premier League, The Israeli Premier League. And also in the Portuguese Primera Liga and in Asia.

Other invited foreign-based players include Umeh Emmanuel and Tochukwu Nnadi, both of Botev Plovdiv in the Bulgarian top flight. Also in the list are, Ebenezer Akinsanmiro (Inter Milan) and Victor Eletu(AC Milan). Odobo plays for Lechia Gdañsk in Polish top flight.

And at the World Cup Nigeria will face, Dominican Republic, Italy and five-time world champions Brazil.

The Flying Eagles first match is against Dominican Republic on 21 May at the Estadio Malvinas Argentinas, in Mendoza. And two days after, Odobo if chosen for the tournament, may likely come up against Italy still in Mendoza.
