AFCON: Flying Eagles Hopeful Despite Being Poor

NPFLUpdates in-house analyst Mr Best has applauded the Flying Eagles of Nigeria for their victory over the Pharaohs of Egypt in their AFCON Matchday two.

Flying Eagles led by captain Daniel Kolocho Bameyi on Wednesday edged the hosts of AFCON U-20 tournament Egypt. They beat Egypt to secure their first AFCON U-20 victory.

And by that performance, has keept the hopes of qualifying for the next round very much alive.

The Egyptians got a better part of Nigeria in the first period. The Junior Pharaohs had a total of 3 shots with just one on target, failing to score.

But, then in the second half, Nigeria coveted most of the possessions, before Solomon opened the scoring.

Left-back, Solomon Agabalaka, shrugged off competitions from Egyptian defenders to head home from a corner-kick.

The 71st minute ferocious header was all that was needed for Nigeria to earn all maximum points.

Analysing the result of the fixture and victory of the national team, Mr. Best said he was unimpressed.

According to him, Bosso’s boys didn’t play a beautiful football as expected; but will be applauded for earning points.

Flying Eagles Keep Hopes Alive Despite Poor Performances:

“The boys’ style of play was totally different from what we saw during their preparatory games here in Nigeria. It was organised at all; infact, their first half performance was abysmal to say the least,” Best told NPFL Updates correspondent on Wednesday evening.

“In games like this, it is understood that winning matches is what matters most and not whether your game was beautiful or not, hence the need to appreciate the boys.”

“Big Congratulations to the boys, and we hope the coaching crew does the needful and have the boys improve on their game because Mozambique will fight tooth-and-nail on their next match.

“My special shout-out goes to the goalscorer Solomon Agabalaka, the goalkeeper and team Captain Daniel Bameyi,” he added.
