AFCON: We Lost Because Of The Referee – Peseiro

Indigenous coaches are not tactical like foreign counterparts

Super Eagles Head coach Jose Peseiro has cried over what he said was a poor officiating by the Egyptian referee Kotey Alexander, who was in charge of the Super Eagles and Guinea-Bissau AFCON qualifier match.

The Super Eagles conceded in the 29th minute with a goal from Esperance Sportive Troyes Aube Champagne forward Mama Balde as the away side took the lead. Efforts to restore parity to the game by the hosts hit the rocks as the Djurtus stood their ground.

The Super Eagles failed to secure three points and is now on the second position one point behind Guinea-Bissau. Displeased by the referee’s officiating, Peseiro said his team was denied Goal-Scoring chances.

Peseiro blames poor officiating for Super Eagles loss:

Speaking to PulseSportNigeria after the game Peseiro said, “Even normally in Europe the referee will give a red card for the foul, but here, the referee gave a yellow card.

“The referee failed to give Mama Balde a red card after going in hard on Kevin Akpoguma.

“The referee did not give a penalty to our striker after he was roughly handled in the penalty box.”

And his address on the issue of the time added after the normal 90 minutes of duration. Peseiro described it as been very poor.

According to Peseiro, the 5 minutes added time isn’t enough. Because a Super Eagles player spent at least three minutes on the turf receiving treatment.

So, he argued that at least 10 extra minutes should’ve been added to that effect, for fairness to be done.

“The added time given by the referee did not justify the time wasted for the treatment of the Super Eagles defender. I was expecting 10 minutes from the referee because our player spent at least three minutes receiving treatment. But he gave five minutes.”

Nigeria will now travel to Bissau for the reverse fixture of the tie. And the Portuguese tactician is confident his team can beat the Djurtus.

“Its one match in two matches, any team can lose. I believe if we play like we played today(Friday), we can beat any team.”
