Akin Amoo : Embattled Ex Golden Eaglets Forward Moves To Cyprus To Revive His Career

Akin Amoo on the verge of joining Cypriot outfit from Copenhagen.

Copenhagen forward, Akin Amoo, is poised to join Cyprus’ topflight club, Omonoia Nicosia in a bid to reviving his career npflupdates.com reports.

The lucrative speedster will join the Cypriot giants on a permanent deal after a verbal agreement by both clubs was reached.

Akin Amoo has been out of action for Copenhagen for over a year. With his last appearance for Danish giants coming against Lyngby in August of 2022.

Amoo as one of the club’s record signing when he arrived from Hammarby IF in 2022 came on for Pep Biel in the 68th minute of the game against Lyngby.

It was sad Amoo couldn’t finish the league as a ruptured knee ligament left him on the sidelines for months.

Amoo, born in Ibadan, Oyo state Nigeria, started his career on the streets in his neighborhood before Joining Brightville Academy.

On 8 June 2020, shortly after helping Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets finish at the round of 16 in the 2019 FIFA U-17 world cup, Akin Amoo joined Swedish club Hammarby IF.

He agreed to terms and signed a four-year contract with the club. He was so good he had advances from Italy’s Milan and AS Monaco in the French Ligue 1. But he turned them down and opted for a start in Sweden.

In 2021, Amoo was handed a late invitation by coach Austin Egueavoen to replace an injured Odion Ighalo. But a plea by Austin wasn’t granted by the Confederation of African Football CAF.

Few months ago, Amoo was in the news for an alleged sexual assault. According to football journalist Osasu Obayiuwana, Amoo has been standing trial in a Danish Court, and could go to jail if found guilty.

However, a representative of the winger, denied claims that he’s been found guilty. According to a post by Adepoju Tobi Samuel on Twitter (Now X), Amoo is not in jail, but is challenging his case in court following due processes.
