Amokachi Breaks 25-year-old Vow With A Move To Morocco

A former Olympic and Super Eagles forward Daniel Amokachi is currently on a course to obtaining a CAF A License in coaching npflupdates.com reports.

Daniel Amokachi during his time with the Super Eagles as an assistant to late Stephen Keshi, helped the national team win its third African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) title.

He’s currently on a mission to obtaining his CAF A License which will make him eligible to coach any African club that needed his services.

However, a dig into the past of the former Everton forward it was uncovered that the bullish forward 25 years ago vowed not venture into coaching after retirment from international football.

This top confession was made public by British journalist Osasu Obayiuwana. According to Osasu, Amokachi in a chat had vowed he would never be a coach once he retires from active professional football.

“Let me tell you a story about @AmokachiTheBull, @hajji_mouad…,” Osasu posted on X (formerly Twitter) handle.

“I visited him at @Besiktas, just after the 1998 #FIFAWorldCup in #France. When I asked Daniel if he would become a coach after retirement, he swore that he would never be! When I reminded him about his words, years later, after he did become a coach, he laughed. One should never say never in life…”

In his prime, Amokachi won the English FA Cup with Everton, he also won an Olympic gold medal with Nigeria’s U-23 in 1996.

In another story, A Zamalek official told influential Arabic sports website Kooora that Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro is among the coaches that have submitted their curriculum vitae for the vacant coaching position at the club.

“Jose Peseiro is among the names already nominated to lead Zamalek,” the official said.

“But he does not enjoy any preference. He is just one name among many CVs on the board of directors’ table.”

He added: “The football administration, represented by the board of directors duo, Ahmed Suleiman and Hussein Al-Sayed, has not finished working on this file and has not settled on a specific name yet, and it is still in the study stage.”

Meanwhile Peseiro denied the speculations, he stressed that he is focused on helping Nigeria qualify for the next world cup and also win the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.

“At the present, all my focus is on the Nigerian national team only,” he said.

“There are no negotiations from Zamalek in any case and I am not thinking about anything else.”
