South African football club Chippa United congratulates goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali for reaching the 2023 AFCON final; npflupdates.com reports.
Chippa United chairman Siviwe Mpegnesi on Wednesday released a statement congratulating Nwabali who was instrumental as Nigeria overcame perennial rivals South Africa during a semifinal clash in Bouake.

Nwabali was outstanding, making some crucial saves during the normal regulation time to help Nigeria remain in the game until penalty shootout.
The 27-year-old former Enyimba FC goalkeeper, made some saves during the decisive spot-kicks to ensure Nigeria reached its first ever AFCON final in over a decade.
How Chippa United reacted to Nwabali reaching 2023 AFCON final
Reacting, Chippa United , reiterate its support for the Goalkeeper who’s currently contracted at the club. According to the club’s statement, the club and it’s fans will support the former Katsina United goalkeeper when he come up against host nation Ivory Coast on Sunday.
“The club wishes to extend its congratulations to Stanley Nwabali for his extraordinary achievement in reaching the AFCON 2023 finals and for also earning the Man of the Match award,” clubs chairman Siviwe Mpegnesi stated.
“Our support for you remains steadfast. You have represented the Chippa United brand admirably. And we are immensely proud of you. We will be rooting for you in the Finals this Sunday against the host country, Cöte d’lvoire. We wish you all the best.
“As we prepare for our upcoming fixtures Orlando Pirates FC away at Orlando Stadium on February 13th, and Cape Town City at home at our new PSL-approved Buffalo City Municipality Stadium on February 17th- the BCM Stadium will also be hosting our home game against the Amakhosi in the first week of April 2024.”
He added, “We assure our stakeholders that we remain committed to our goal of being the pride of the Eastern Cape Province, and we will not be shaken because we are Chippa United football Club, The Chilli Boys.”
Nwabali is expected to start in goal when Nigeria face Ivory Coast in the finals on Sunday. The Super Eagles will hope to win its fourth AFCON title, while the Akwaba Elephants is gunning for another title after winning in 2015.
