Gift Orban : I Always Visit My Togolese People But I’m For Super Eagles

Super Eagles invitee Gift Orban, has opened up and cleared the air as to where his international allegiance lies npflupdates.com reports.

Gift Orban based on his excellent form for his Belgium Pro League outfit KAA Gent was invited to the Super Eagles camp ahead of AFCON qualifier fixture against Sao Tome and Principe.

Orban joined Gent last January from Norwegian outfit Stabæk. And has since his move integrated himself into the team’s starting XI. And this can not be far from his goal-scoring prowess and abilities.

Just last season, he scored over twenty goals for the former Belgian champions across all competitions. Also, he became the player with the fastest hat-trick in a UEFA competition. With his abilities, he was able to lead Gent to a knockout stages of the UEFA Europa Conference League. Sadly, they were knocked out by West Ham United, who eventually lifted the trophy.

There was a lot of controversies surrounding Gift Orban and his dream of representing Nigeria internationally. Because it was speculated that there’s a move by the Nigeria Football Federation NFF, to blacklist him. For failing to honour an Olympic Eagles invitation earlier this year.

Shortly after the news went viral, it was speculated again that Togo is planning to hijack the player.

But now, all those speculations will have to rest after the 21-year-old made it known where his loyalty lies.

According to him, he had always believed that one day, he will feature for the Super Eagles. And despite visiting his Togolese mother on various occasions, he had always nursed the Super Eagles ambition.

“I have always believed that one day I will play for the Super Eagles. My mother is from Togo and I always visited him over there , but my greatest ambition is to represent Nigeria,” he told CompleteSports Nigeria .

“I am closer to fulfilling that ambition now. I can’t wait to get on the pitch against Sao Tome and Principe.”

Also in a related development, Victor Osimhen has stated this willingness to pair with any player in the Super Eagles attacking department.

According to the Napoli forward, he doesn’t bother who he plays alongside, as far as the objective of the game is achieved.

“For me, I don’t mind who I pair with because we’ve got amazing strikers. (Taiwo) Awoniyi is there, (Victor) Boniface is there, (Gift) Orban also, (Kelechi) Iheanacho is there also,” he said to the media.

“So, whosoever the coach decides to pair with me or to play with any striker, I’m cool with it. For me, the team is the most important thing, before any individual player.

Speaking further, the former Olympique Lille forward, said he can feature in a  4-4-2 formation.

“I can play any position. For me, as long as it’s a forward [role], I can pair with anyone. So we are really looking forward to it.”
