The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is on the lookout for a new experienced tactician that will manage the Super Eagles following José Peseiro’s Shocking exit; npflupdates.com reports.
José refused a contract extension with the NFF after his contract ended post 2023 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Ivory Coast.
Peseiro refused a contract extension despite leading Nigeria to it’s first ever AFCON final fixture in over a decade.

“Yesterday, we concluded our contract with the NFF. It was a pride and honor to coach the Super Eagles. It has been 22 months of immense dedication, sacrifice, emotion, and enormous enthusiasm. We feel a sense of fulfillment,” Peseiro posted on his X (formerly Twitter) handle.
“Guys, we are thankful; it has been a privilege to be part of this family. We will miss you, but we will always be there for you, no matter where you are. A big hug to all of you.”
Meanwhile speculations spread that the former Sporting CP manager left the Super Eagles after his proposal for a $120,000 monthly salary was denied by the NFF.
The NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, according to the PUNCH debunk the claims that the federation held a meeting with Peseiro in a bid to extend his contract with the Eagles.
What the NFF said about making José Peseiro improved offer
According to the PUNCH, the football execute also denied speculations that it presented an offer in the neighborhood of $80,000(monthly salary/ to the Portuguese.
“If anything like that had happened you will see it on our official communication channel,” Gusau was quoted by the PUNCH Nigeria.
In the same way, Gusau also denied reports that the NFF had its Technical Director Austin Egueavoen take charge of the Super Eagles on interim basis.
Egueavoen post retirement, had coached the three-time African champions to a bronze medal finish at the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations.
He went ahead to serve the team in interim capacity in 2010, after the departure of European gaffer Lars Lagerback.
Again the former Super Eagles captain took charge of the team in 2021 after Franco-German manager Gernot Rohr was relieved of his job.

He managed a round of 16 finish at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon, before stepping down from his position as interim coach after arch-rivals Ghana forced Nigeria to a 1-1 draw in Abuja to qualify for Qatar 2022 World Cup on the away goal rule.
According Gusau, the NFF never appointed Egueavoen in any capacity to manage the Super Eagles.
