NFF Owing Super Falcons N17M WAFCON Bonus

The football governing body in Nigeria, Nigeria Football Federation(NFF), according to a revelation is owing four Super Falcons players to the tune of $38,000(17,000,000 in Naira equivalent) NPFLUpdates understands.

The Nigeria Football Federation is owing Super Falcons based in the United States of America based players $38,000 WAFCON bonuses.

Last year the Super Falcons had travelled to Morocco for an edition of the WAFCON tournament. They senior national women’s team despite clinching a FIFA women’s world cup ticket, experienced what seemed like their worst outing in two decades after failing to win a medal in the continental showpiece.

Nigeria lost 4-5 to Morocco in the semi-final through a penalty shootout; they also went ahead to lose to Zambia in the bronze-medal match 0-1.

Match bonuses was paid to some players, while some where owed. The owed players were all based in the United States of America.

The players yet to receive their WAFCON ($9,500 each) bonuses are: Toni Payne and her sister Nicole, Ifeoma Onumonu, and Michelle Alozie.

According to the NFF, the players were not owed intentionally, but due to some logistics reasons. The Nigeria football governing body explained that it is having challenges sending money to banks in the United States.

Confirming the development Tuesday night, Nigeria-English football journalist, Osasu Obayiuwana, said,

“I have heard yet more disturbing news about some@NGSuper_Falcons players and @thenff. Will talk about it in detail, once I hear the exact info in the morning.”

Confirming the disturbing development Wednesday morning he revealed the names of the affected players. He described the excuse by the NFF as a ‘Cock and bull’ story.

“And here it is – Two US-based @NGSuper_Falcons players, at least – they could be more – are being owed money, from the #WAFCON2022 tournament in Morocco played several months ago.

“The excuse being given to them, by @thenff is that ‘they have a challenge making bank transfer to the USA.’ what a crock and bull story.”

In another follow-up tweet, he urged the NFF to pay them their allowances having owed them since last July.

“These are the four US-based @NGSuper_Falcons that are owed #WAFCON 2022 money ($9,500 each). Toni Payne and her sister Nicole, @ify_on22 (Ifeoma Onumonu) and Michelle Alozie. What kind of nonsense is this, @thenff? Pay them!!? You’ve been owing them since July 2022.”
