The Nigeria Football Federation NFF, should consider engaging the Super Eagles Captain Ahmed Musa as a Player-Coach, npflupdates in-house analyst Mr Best opines.
   The Super Eagles is currently without a contracted head coach after the expiration of Jose Peseiro’s contract last month. So, at the moment, the Super Eagles is operating with a manager. And the Nigeria Football Federation NFF, is yet to announce to the public whether the Portuguese will continue as manager of not.
And recall last month, the NFF through it’s President Ibrahim Gusau, had thrown the fate of Peseiro into the hands of fans, pundits and journalist. An action which became a taking point across various media platforms in the country. Interestingly, the conversation and poll generated a lot of controversial opinions; hence, the reason why journalists kicked against the idea of going to a poll.
But with the expiration of Peseiro’s contract, and the NFF yet to come forth with a clearing statement, the Super Eagles can not be kept in the dark of not having a manager. And of course, now that they have a big competition in AFCON coming up next year.

Reasons why NFF should engage Super Eagles skipper Ahmed Musa as a player-coach
According to Mr Best, the NFF should embrace the European method of hiring an active player to also function as a coach. The seasoned analyst, opined that employing a player-coach will be the best thing that can happens to the national team.
“I believe now is the time for the NFF to take the bull by the horns. We’re at the crossroads now. And whatever we do now, will make or mar the upcoming AFCON,” he said Friday evening.
“If Super Eagles coach (Jose Peseiro)contract won’t be renewed, the NFF should come forth and tell the public. Because their silence at this time is not any way good to the national team. We have the big one (2024 AFCON) in our hands, and we can’t afford to blow it.”
“In my own opinion, I will advise the federation to engage Super Eagles Captain Ahmed Musa as a player-coach. He has the qualities, and can deliver the team. We’re not the first team to employ that strategy. And check, most times, teams flourish when they apply such method. Because their coach is also a player that understands the pattern and needs of his teammates,” he concluded.

Ahmed Musa is Super Eagles highest capped player, with over 100 appearances for the national team. And during these years, he has won the AFCON(2013), AFCON Bronze Medal, and have made two world cup appearances.
Nigeria will conclude their AFCON qualifiers in September when they welcome Sao Tome and Principe in Uyo, AkwaIbom State. Although the match is not of much importance, because the team is already qualified for the showpiece that will take place in Ivory Coast.
