Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has officially Sparta Rotherdam’s Best Player Award for the 2021/2022 season npflupdates exclusively reports.
The Nigeria-German player was voted as the best player by fans of the Netherlands outfit due to his performances.
Okoye joined England’s Skybet Championship outfit Watford last summer from Sparta. He agreed to stay at the Vicarage road, and penned a five-year contract.

After the deal was signed, Okoye was loaned out to Sparta Rotherdam for the remainder of the season.
Okoye joined Sparta Rotherdam from German Bundesliga outfit Fortuna Düsseldorf II in 2020. Between 2020 and 2022 at Sparta Rotherdam, Okoye feature 68 times across competitions.
Okoye win best player award in Holland
Last season before moving to Watford, the 23-year-old was Sparta Rotherdam’s best goalkeeper. He featured in thirty league games, keeping seven sheets in the process.
His goalkeeping prowess at Sparta, was key to their survival from the relegation. And that was the main reason the fans picked him for the best player award.
The award was presented to the shotstopper Het Kasteel ground on sunday before the Eredivise fixture with Fyenoord.
Since his move to Watford, the Nigerian goalkeeper has performed below expectations. He has been relegated to the bench as an assistant to first choice goalkeeper Daniel Bachman.
On 22 February 2019, Okoye was invited to the Nigeria U-23 team for an AFCON qualifier against Libya by Imama Amapakabo. But he failed to make an official debut owing to some logistics
On 14 August former Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr invited Okoye for a friendly against Ukraine. And on 13 October in 2019, he made his international debut as a substitute in a friendly game against Brazil.
Since his international debut, Okoye has represented Nigeria 16 times. He manned Nigeria’s goalpost in the last edition of AFCON.
He was criticised by home fans for poor performance in the quarterfinal fixture against the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia.
And following his decision to take a break from international football, Okoye was dropped for the AFCON qualifier against Guinea-Bissau.
