According to the 25-year-old, it would be the best moments of his life to win the AFCON with Nigeria. And probably, he’d retire from the national team when he achieved such feat.
The former Sporting Charleroi forward last season helped Napoli win its first ever Scudetto title in more than three decades; scoring 26 Italian Serie A goals. And becoming the first Nigerian to finish as Italian Serie A highest goalscorer in a season.
Osimhen talks about winning the AFCON with the Super Eagles
“It would be one of the best moments of my life.
“I have done that with Napoli, I have made history, but no matter what I do, no matter how many goals I have scored, to be able to win the AFCON, I would go a long way in my life but probably when I do that I am done,” Osimhen was quoted by PUNCH Nigeria.
“I am really looking forward to winning something with the Super Eagles.”
It’s no doubt that the eyes of more than 200
million Super Eagles supporters are on Osimhen who won the CAF 2023 Player Of The Year (POTY) award. And that hope comes with a lot of pressure on him, who will not want to disappoint his supporters.
Meanwhile, the former VFL Wolfsburg forward, insists he is equal to the task, and can handle the pressure.
“I have aimed high all my life while growing up, and this pressure comes naturally. I am the kind of person who doesn’t fold under pressure,” he said.
“As the pressure comes I take it into my head to try to give my best and do well for myself.
“So far so good, I have been doing well for my club and country, which I feel like is the most important thing,”
Talking about his source of inspiration, Osimhen reveals talking to Super Eagles great Kanu Nwankwo and Jay Jay Okocha (who was part of the team that won Nigeria’s second AFCON title in 1994).
According to the Napoli man, he owe the Nigerian legends a lot, stressing that being classified in same category with them is an honour to his name.

“I used to speak with Nwankwo Kanu and Jay-Jay Okocha. I think I owe a lot of my success to them because they have been sort of an inspiration to me while growing up.
“To be up there in the same category as them — not that I am better than them in terms of football, but in terms of what I have achieved — I think is huge for me,” he added.
