Super Eagles and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen is one of the athletes that won big prizes at the just concluded Nigeria Pitch Awards ceremony.
The organisers of the Nigeria Pitch Awards , on Friday 24th March, released the winners of the 2022 Nigeria Pitch Awards.
The event which was supposed to be stalled by the disgraceful defeat the Super Eagles suffered against the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau was however held. Because, according to the organisers, the ceremony can go on despite the awful outing at the Abuja stadium.
So, they insisted since Nigerian athletes in parts of the world are in top forms, the needed to be recognized.
Osimhen is the current Italian Serie A top scorer with 21 goals in 23 appearances. He saw off competitions from Alex Iwobi to win the King of the Pitch Awards for 2022.
The 24-year-old marksman, also scooped the Striker of the Year awards; he saw off tough opposition from Atalanta Bergamo’s winger Ademola Lookman.

Osimhen others win at Pitch Awards:
And in the female category, 5-time CAF Best Player, Asisat Oshoala, won the Queen of the Pitch awards. She beat UD Tenerife’s Monday Gift to the award.
So, Francis Uzoho won the Goalkeeper of the year award. The Omonia Nicosia Shotstopper, saw off Hapoel Jerusalem goalie Adebayo Adeleye and Rivers United Victor Sochima, to win the award.
And Ajax Amsterdam defender, Calvin Bassey, shrugged off FC Porto’s Zaidu Sanusi. And also Super Eagles vice-captain William Troost-Ekong, to win the Defender of the Year.
The event which was held a the Johnwood Hotel Abuja, saw Rivers United win the Team of the Year. Coach of Rivers United, and one of the longest serving NPFL gaffer, Stanley Eguma, won the Coach of the Year.
Lagos State, was awarded the State with Best Grassroot Football. Godswill Akpabio International Stadium Uyo, won the Best Football Pitch of the Year.
Rivers State Governor, His Excellency Nyesom Wike won the the Football Friendly Governor of the Year for the second time.
