Peseiro : MY First Ambition Is To Win The 2023 AFCON For Nigeria

Super Eagles head coach, José Peseiro reveals his first ambition as coach of Nigeria ahead of 2023 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) tournament npflupdates.com reports.

Peseiro will be leading three-time African champions at the 34th edition of the AFCON; with hopes of executing it and winning Nigeria’s fourth title.

Nigeria last tasted AFCON victory a decade ago, where it beat Burkina Faso in the finals to win a third title.

The star-studded side to stand a chance of winning the AFCON championship will have to progress from its group which consists of Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau.

The Super Eagles recent poor form, where it drew two of its 2026 FIFA world cup qualifier fixtures against Lesotho and Zimbabwe, gave Nigerians reason to be worried.

But Peseiro in a recent interview expressed confidence in his boys, while revealing his ambition of winning the AFCON.

What Peseiro said about his Super Eagles ambition

According to the Portuguese football guru, being part of Nigerian football is undeniably an interesting thing.

“My experience with the Nigerian national team is very good. Being part of African and Nigerian football is an interesting thing, and I cannot deny that,” Peseiro told KORAPLUS and was quoted by Leadership Nigeria.

“I told everyone that I wanted to win the Africa Cup of Nations from the first moment I signed the contract with the Nigerian national team, and we study our opponents well in order to win, and this is what we seek to achieve.”

The Super Eagles will start their preparation for the competition in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates tomorrow(Tuesday). And participating players are expected to arrive the national team camp latest 3 January, 2024.
