Rashidi Yekini : I Can’t Challenge The Great Legend – Osimhen

Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen publicly acknowledges the legendary feat achieved by late forward Rashidi Yekini NPFLUpdates.com reports.

Osimhen announced that while he admires the work of Rashidi Yekini, he doesn’t see himself challenging the legend.

Rashidi Yekini is Nigeria’s highest goalscorer with 37 goals in 62 appearances. Meanwhile, Osimhen already has 20 goals in 26 games for the Super Eagles. And is just 17 games away from becoming Nigeria’s all time highest goalscorer.

However, the former Olympique Lille forward, admitted that following in the footsteps of Yekini, will be a huge move in the right direction for him.

“I don’t think I can challenge the great, the legend Rashidi Yekini. Because he’s done so well for the country, for the Super Eagles, and to be able to try to follow in his footsteps is a huge one for me,” Osimhen told Pulse and was reported by Soccernet Nigeria.

“But I think I have the ability to try to meet up with his numbers. And to try to help the team as much as I can. I think I’m ready to go. I’m ready.”

Adding to what he has said, Osimhen stated that he had players who can back him to become great. And for that reason alone, he’s ever ready to give his all for the team, to ensure victory.

“I’ve got a lot of players that can also help and support me. So, for me, I’m ready to give my all for the team,” he stated.

“If I surpass the goals record, I pass it; if I equal it, I equal it. But I really don’t think about that. I just want to get as many goals as I can score for the team, which is the most important thing,” he added.

Rashidi Yekini is Nigeria’s most lethal striker in history; characterized by speed, shot-power and shot-accuracy. The legend was the scorer of Nigeria’s first ever FIFA men’s world cup goal.
