Victor Osimhen : I Always Have My Eyes On The CAF POTY Award

Super Eagles Victor Osimhen has opened up on his intentions of winning CAF Player Of The Year award npflupdates.com reports.

Victor Osimhen was the highest goalscorer in the Italian Serie A in the 2022/2023 season. Also, he helped Napoli win its first ever Scudetto title in more than three decades; and was subsequently regarded by fans as the King of Naples.

The Nigerian striker is making tongues to wag due to his goal-scoring prowess. As a matter of fact, the 26-year-old finished as the 2024 AFCON qualifiers highest goalscorer. And is just 17 goals away from equalling the goal-scoring record of late Super Eagles legend Rashidi Yekini.

Victor Osimhen explains CAF POTY ambition

Speaking on how he would feel winning the CAF Player Of The Year Award(POTY),  Osimhen said; “It [would] mean a lot, a whole lot to me.”

He reminisced on how he felt when he witnessed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang win the award in 2015. Then, Osimhen won the CAF Youth player of the year.

“I remember in 2015, when I won the (CAF) Youth Player of the Year (award). You know, I saw the winner (Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang) walk up to the podium to receive it (the CAF POTY award).”

According to the former VFL Wolfsburg forward, since the 2015 incident it has always been his ambition to win the CAF POTY.

“Since then, for me, it became a dream to try to be there and win something as prestigious as that.

“I think now I have a huge opportunity to actualise this dream. I’m really looking forward to it, and hopefully, it comes home.”

In a similar development, Victor Osimhen was nominated for the 2023 Ballon d’Or award. Which he has taken to describe as a dream come true for him, and a big honour to his family.

“I must say it is a dream come true for me. It is a big honour for me and my family,” Osimhen told reporters in Uyo.

“I have worked so hard for a moment like this and I must say it is a reward for all the years of hard work and dedication.”

Speaking further, he said the nomination can only make him out in more Hardwork, other than going home to rest.
