Victor Osimhen excused from Super Eagles camp in Portugal
Osimhen had suffered an injury in the Friday clash between the Super Eagles and Saudi Arabia’s Green Falcons, where Nigeria was held to a 2-2 draw.
On Friday Nigeria failed to win its first friendly match since March 2019. Nigeria have played fifteen matches, losing eight and drawing seven.
“We need to improve on our finishing,” Peseiro said in a post-match interview.
According to Peseiro, the Super Eagles attackers lacked what he explained as “killer instinct”; stressing that’s why the three-time African champions failed to win the Asian giants.
“I think we played very well in the first half and could have scored about three to five goals and in the second half as well. We created more chances in the second half but we need the killer instinct in this squad but I’m happy with the result,” he added.
In a related story, Peseiro defended goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, who committed a blunder that resulted in Saudi Arabia’s first goal.
“When I arrived here, I remember I was told to change the goalkeeper. I spoke with all of them, No one feels comfortable because everybody attacked them,” he said.
“I like our players, when they make mistakes it is my responsibility.
“The goalkeepers never play free or calm because of the people. I don’t know why they attack the goalkeepers every time.”

He added, “Why don’t they attack the strikers when they lose the ball or miss a goal, why?
They could make mistakes, it is my responsibility. Next time I need to train him (Uzoho) better.”
