Osimhen sustained an injury during Super Eagles international friendly against the Green Falcons of Saudi Arabia two weeks ago. As a result of the injury, the former VFL Wolfsburg forward was excused from the national team camp by coach Jose Peseiro as a precautionary measure so as not to escalate the degree of the injury.
After medical assessment by the Napoli medical team, it was announced that Osimhen will be on the sidelines for at least six weeks.
Osimhen continues recovery process from injury in Nigeria
Last Wednesday, a report by Corriere dello Sport, has it that Osimhen flew to Germany alongside his teammates, who were going for a UEFA Champions League group stage game against Union Berlin. But did not stay with the team. The striker instead flew to Nigeria from Germany due to personal undisclosed reasons.
“Victor Osimhen was traveling to Frankfurt but not to stay in Germany and obviously not to follow the team to Berlin as some had suspected after the images among the fans in Capodichino. The striker had flown to Frankfurt on Tuesday but to reach Nigeria for personal reasons. The attacker had already spoken about it with De Laurentiis. The trip was therefore planned,” the Italian publication read and was quoted by The PUNCH Nigeria.

Osimhen is expected to spend at least twenty-eight more days on the sidelines before he can return back to the pitch again.
In a related development, Osimhen threw his weight behind his Golden Eaglets teammates Samuel Chukwueze who’s currently having a hard start to life in the Serie A.
Chukwueze joined AC Milan from Villarreal CF last summer, and has then failed to make an instant impact to the former Serie A champions.
So far this season, the Nigerian winger is yet to score any Serie A goal.
According to Osimhen, he is ready to bet his life for Chukwueze who’s a close friend of his.

“Chuk is a great talent for his age. I also struggled the first two months in Italy. Serie A is a very competitive league. He came from a different league, I would bet my life on his talent. He must believe in his talent and it will start to show,” he stated.
He added, “People don’t know how difficult it is to play in Serie A. From a tactical and physical point of view, it’s one of the most difficult leagues to play in.”
