Boniface Talks about his type of player and roles ahead of 2023 AFCON
“There are lots of classic strikers. They wait for their moment in the penalty area. But then it can happen that they don’t touch the ball for ten minutes”, he explained in a publication by Owngoal Nigeria.
Speaking further, the former FC Bodø and Glimt forward, expressed that he likes getting involved in his team build-up play. Always wanting the opponent defenders to come close to him, that way he can open up spaces for his advancing teammates.
“I don’t like that. I want to play differently, create chances and not just finish them. I like dropping back to take part in the build-up and; I like pulling opposition defenders towards me and thereby creating space for my teammates,” the German Bundesliga 4-time Rookie Of The Month winner continued.
He added saying, “A bit of this style is in my nature. I used to play in midfield and increasingly took part in build-up play. I often watch videos of tricky and intelligent players to develop my game in that way to be able to the help the team even more.”

If Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro will go by what Boniface explained as his type of play, that means the chances of Fulham playmaker Alex Iwobi who play in the attacking midfield position will be limited. And that’s especially now, that Wilfred Ndidi is being used up front at Leicester City(maybe Peseiro will also take the lead to see results).
Wilfred Ndidi since his new role at King Power Stadium, has been scoring goals and provided three assists.
