Super Eagles head coach José Peseiro remains upbeat his side played well in its 2023 AFCON opener against Equato-Guinea npflupdates.com reports.
Peseiro saw his side play out a 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea at the Ebimpe Stadium Abidjan, on Sunday. Even though the Super Eagles held possessions of the ball most of the times, they still failed to secure the maximum three points.

Napoli forward Victor Osimhen and his partner Ademola Lookman have clear chances which if they had utilised would’ve seen the national team defeat their opponents.
Peseiro talks about Super Eagles performances against Equatorial Guinea
Supporters of the three-time African champions were disappointed at the result of the game; but coach Peseiro seem pleased with his boys’ performances.
“I’m sad about the result but not with the capacity of our performance. We played a good game, created many chances and clear opportunities, especially in the second half and I think we deserved to win. If we keep up this dominance we will do well,” the 63-year-old told the media in a post-match interview.
In another story, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau has called out Super Eagles players over what he described as poor performances against Equatorial Guinea.
According to Gusau, the players had nothing stopping them from doing their best, as they have the full support and backing of the government.
“After all the things the Government has done to support the team, you couldn’t play well,” a furious Gusau hit out at the players while also questioning their commitment to the national team per ScoreNigeria .

Peseiro and his boys will look to end it’s three match winless run against 2023 AFCON host nation Ivory Coast on Thursday.
