The Super Eagles of Nigeria is currently without a contracted head coach following the withdrawal of José Peseiro as its coach; npflupdates.com reports.
José Peseiro’s contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) came to an end earlier this week. And it seems the Portuguese tactician will not entertain a contract extension despite having an offer from the football governing body.

A source close to the NFF, revealed that Peseiro has an offer presented by the NFF. And one of the items in the offer, has it that the former Super Eagles will still take home the same $50,000 monthly salary.
“The ball is now in the court of the coach to accept this or reject it,” the source told SCORENigeria.
Peseiro quit Super Eagles coaching job
Peseiro via a post on his X handle revealed that his contract with the NFF has ended.
“Yesterday, we concluded our contract with the NFF. It was a pride and honor to coach the Super Eagles. It has been 22 months of immense dedication, sacrifice, emotion, and enormous enthusiasm. We feel a sense of fulfillment,” Peseiro said.
“Guys, we are thankful; it has been a privilege to be part of this family. We will miss you, but we will always be there for you, no matter where you are. A big hug to all of you.”
It seems the former Sporting CP gaffer, will not be without a job for too long, as he disclosed he’s received a lot of offers from clubs and countries. But, he is only focused on taking a break.
“I told everyone to come back at the end of the month. What is certain is that I want to continue coaching and I need to choose wisely,” Peseiro told Goal.

“At this moment, I repeat, all options remain possible. I received a lot of options, and a lot of contacts from national teams or clubs.
“I would say 5, 6 or 7, he revealed, without revealing their identity.
“I let them all know that I need to rest and that when my contract expires I will talk about it and start thinking about other projects. And decide my future. For now, I need to take a break and be calm.
“But I listen to the proposals and projects that are offered to me. And I evaluate whether I like it or not.”
Peseiro is the first coach to guide the Super Eagles to silver medal finish in an AFCON in over a decade.

Speculations in the Nigerian media space has it that, NFF Technical Director, Austin Egueavoen will take charge of the Super Eagles on interim basis.
Egueavoen guided the Super Eagles to a Knockout stages finish at the 2022 AFCON in Cameroon. He’s expected to be in the technical areas when the Super Eagles take on Argentina later this month.
