Hopes For Olympic Eagles Douse Tension

There are hopes for the Olympic Eagles of Nigeria U-23 after it was discovered that Guinea had fielded a player with age discrepancies for their AFCON U-23 qualifier NPFLUpdates reports.

Guinea beat Nigeria to clinch a ticket for the next edition of the AFCON U-23 tournament. In the double-header AFCON qualifier matches that happened on the 23 and 28 March the Guineans qualified on a two-goal aggregate.

Because Nigeria was held to a goalless draw at the Moshood Abiola Stadium Abuja in the first leg.

And in Morocco for the second leg, Guinea struck twice through Bah Algassime and Soumah. Hence ending the Olympic dreams of the Olympic Eagles of Nigeria.

A look into the Junior Syli National team squad for the tie, it was discovered that it fielded midfielder, Fode Camara, who allegedly falsified his age and other details so as to qualify for the tie.

According to reports, the Horoya FC midfielder, has featured in Confederations of African Football(CAF) competitions with a variety of names. And disputable different age details, fuelling speculations he’s overaged.

In a game against South Africa club, Kaizer Chiefs in a CAF Champions League some years ago, Fode Camara featured as Sekou Camara.

And Camara, few years ago featured in a CAF game against Enyimba FC with different profile.

So, a journalist from Guinea has expressed fear the team could be stripped off the AFCON U-23 ticket.

And this can happen assuming Nigeria makes a case out of the recent developments.

According to the journalist who spoke to OwngoalNigeria, Nigeria may not make a case of the development. Because it was also guilty of same age-cheating offenses.

Hopes for Olympic Eagles:

“It’s a concern and a big issue in Guinea as we speak. Of course, Nigeria have a solid case. Because the records in public domain suggests he altered his age to be eligible for this level,” he told OwngoalNigeria .

“Age cheat is a big issue down here; and there are fears that it could cost us the U-23 AFCON ticket.

“But it’s Nigeria. And I doubt if your FA will even lodge a protest.

“Because we all know how you guys aren’t clean as well.”
