AFCON: I’m Ready For Guinea-Bissau – Uzoho Cries From Cyprus

Super Eagles Goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho has confirmed his readiness for the AFCON qualifier match against Guinea-Bissau later this month.

During the FIFA international football break coming up later this month, Nigeria will encounter Guinea-Bissau. The AFCON qualifier matches will see the winner having one foot away from AFCON ticket.

One thing that has become a herculean task for most coaches of Super Eagles is finding capable hands to man the goal. At the last edition of AFCON, an error from goalkeeper Maduka Okoye saw the Super Eagles crash out of the knock-stages. He miscalculated a shot from a Tunisian player, from outside the box. Nigeria crashed out despite playing beautiful football in the group stages.

Inconsistency between first and second choice Goalkeepers of the team has become a nightmare for manager Jose Peseiro. Peseiro saw his side lose twice to Algeria in a friendly last year, and embarrassingly conceding four goals against a World-Cup-bound Portugal.

To calm down the nerves of Nigerians ahead of the clash, Uzoho, made a tweet confirming his readiness. The former Deportivo La Coruna shot-stopper hasn’t been at his best in the recent weeks. But he has somehow established himself as the first choice goalie over compatriot Maduka Okoye.

Uzoho Confirms Readiness For Guinea-Bissau Clash:

“Focusing on the task at hand but ready for the next big one BIG23# IN CHRIST ALONE,” he announced via his official Twitter handle ahead of a Cypriot league derby between Omnia Nicosia and APOEL Nicosia on Saturday.

Uzoho has conceded at least four goals in his last five matches for Omonia Nicosia. But in all of that has maintained his spot as the first choice Goalkeeper of Omonia Nicosia.

Whether or not Jose Peseiro will retain him in goal remains sketchy. Because the Portuguese Tactician was spotted on various occasions watching NPFL matches and scouting for home-grown goalies.
