A former Super Eagles midfielder John Mikel Obi, has called for utilisation of the experience of Ahmed Musa at the 2023 AFCON npflupdates.com reports.

Ahmed Musa is the current Super Eagles Captain, and hasn’t been in action with the national team in their last three outings.
Mikel Obi and Ahmed Musa were in the Super Eagles’ squad that won Nigeria’s third AFCON title a decade ago in South Africa. But while Mikel has retired Musa is still in active service, possessing a lot of experience about the AFCON tournament.
What Mikel said about Ahmed Musa deploying his experience for 2023 AFCON
According to Mikel Obi, Nigeria needs to approach every game at the 2023 AFCON prepared if they must achieve a podium finish. Based on his views, the Super Eagles’ are the favourites, hence opponent teams would want to beat them.
“For us(Super Eagles) to win next year year AFCON, we have to be ready to fight from the the start because as favourites, teams target and prepare adequately for you. But the idea is usually one game at a time and also keeps your eyes on moving from one stage to another,” the former Chelsea man said and was quoted by Owngoal Nigeria.

He added, “You can’t wish away experience and that is where the likes of Ahmed Musa, Moses Simon, Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi will be key. Also, the star of the team Victor Osimhen has to be at his best, because for a team to win the AFCON, you need a striker to among the goals. We had Emenike in 2013, and Rashidi Yekini in 1994.”
In another but related development, Obi urged Nigerians to always be prepared and not shy away from meeting Africa’s big teams.
In his opinion, there’s no way Nigeria can avoid meeting a big team on their to a fourth AFCON title.
“We have to make sure we beat the big boys,” the former Tianjin Teda playmaker said.
“To win these kind of trophies you have to make sure you’re ready to play against the big boys.”

He continued, “Senegal, Egypt, the Ivory Coast, and the Moroccans, so we have to make sure that we’re ready for these big games.
“We’ll eventually face them at some point during the tournament, so we have to make sure we’re ready for that.”
