The football governing body in Nigeria, the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) has said except he resigns as Olympic Eagles head, Coach Salisu Yusuf will remain the coach of the national team NPFLUpdates reports.
The NFF insists on retaining the former Kano Pillars gaffer, despite the yearnings of supporters. Supporters of the national team wants to have him relieved of his duty.
The Olympic U-23 Eagles under the leadership of Salisu Yusuf, yesterday crashed out of the next edition of AFCON U-23 after losing 2-0 to Guinea in Morocco.
Two second half goals by Bah Algassime and Soumah ended the Olympic dreams of the Olympic Eagles. The Guineans progressed on a two-goal aggregate after drawing with the Nigerian team in Abuja last week.
Nigeria for the second consecutive will not be at the Olympics after missing out on the last edition in 2020.
Nigerians after the match took to various social media platforms seeking the immediate sacking of the Super Eagles assistant coach.
“Don’t know why the NFF is still retaining him after his poor run of form” a fan said on Facebook.
The yearnings of the supporters may have fallen on deaf ears; because a top official of the NFF confirmed that there’s no plan to fire the experienced tactician.

What NFF said about Salisu
“For now? No, except he resigns. There are no plans of replacing the Tactician. He’s a capable hand I must tell you,” he told our correspondent when contacted Wednesday morning.
“What is happening to Yusuf has happened to even bigger managers at one point or the other in their careers. With what we have seen him do with the boys under his care, he has done a wonderful job.
“Luck can ran out of anybody at any point in time. Our prayer is we maintain faith with the current administration, it is working round the clock to get things in order.”
