A former Super Falcons gaffer, Christopher Musa Danjuma, has been appointed as the new head coach of Nigeria’s Falconets (U-20 women’s) by the Nigeria Football Federation NFF, npflupdates.com reports.

Musa Danjuma was reinstated to the position he was previously occupying, following a screening and interview process by the NFF Technical Committee.

The process of finding a new coach for the national team, began with a one-week public notice. The notice requested for applications from suitably qualified persons, and after which, short-listed candidates were contacted and interviewed by a panel of the Technical Committee.

The committee after the interview, had submitted its recommendation and the same recommendation has been approved by the NFF Executive Committee.

The experienced tactician according to reports will be assisted by a former U-20 and U-17 girls’ assistant coach Mansur Abdullahi. Also in the cabinet is a former Super Falcons’ midfielder Effioanwan Ekpo.

Ekpo, as a player during her active days, represented Nigeria for a period of ten years between 2000 and 2010. And during this time, she featured in two FIFA women’s world cup tournament in 2003(USA) and 2007(China) respectively.

Also she was with the Nigeria’s women at the 2004 and 2008 Women Olympic Football Tournaments in Athens and Beijing respectively.

As a player she won the Women Africa Cup of Nations WAFCON, on three different occasions. She also featured at the 2007 All-Africa Games in Algiers.

Meanwhile, Yahaya Audu, who has been the team’s goalkeeper trainer, also returns to his position ahead of the FIFA world cup qualifier.

Musa in the oasty has taken temporary charge of the Senior Women National Team, Super Falcons, on a couple of occasions.

More interestingly, he led the Falconets to the quarter-finals of last year’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup finals in Costa Rica.

The Falconets will commence their 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign with a second round, first leg fixture against their counterparts from Mauritius in Saint Pierre on Sunday, 8th October.

Again they will return for the second date at the prestigious MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja on Saturday, 14th October 2023.
