Super Falcons Get New WAFCON Qualifier Opponent

The Super Falcons will engage Cape Verde women’s national team for a ticket at the n CT edition of the WAFCON npflupdates.com reports.

Nigeria(Super Falcons) will play Cape Verde in November, after the latter emerged victorious in its first qualifier.

Cape Verde scaled its first hurdle by beating Liberian opponent yesterday. Away at Liberia, Cape Verde earned a narrow 2-3 victory after nailing Liberia 3-0 in the first leg.

Recall Nigeria qualified automatically after Sao Tome and Principe’s women withdrew from the qualifiers. Sao Tome and Principe, withdrew from the WAFCON less than one week to the first leg; reasons not made public.

The second-round stage is slated for the period of 27th Nov – 5th Dec. 2023.

Super Falcons hope to clinch WAFCON

The WAFCON for the second consecutive time will be held in Morocco. According to Confederations of African Football CAF, the last edition of WAFCON was a success. Experiencing huge sponsorship deals, massive and a record fans turnout on match-days.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons will be looking to qualify, so they can charge for a tenth title having won a record Nine times.

At the tournament in Morocco, Nigeria couldn’t achieve a podium finish, as they lost to the bronze medal match to Zambia.

In a related development, the Nigeria Football Federation NFF, is still engaging the representatives of coach Randy Waldrum for a possible contract extension.

Waldrum found himself in an unfortunate PR before the 2023 FIFA women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. The American accused the NFF for lack of support, blackmail and misappropriation of funds.
