Taiwo Awoniyi fires blank against goal-hungry Manchester City

Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro will heave a sigh of relief following the return fr injury of star player Taiwo Awoniyi npflupdates.com reports.

Awoniyi missed out on Super Eagles last engagements with the Green Falcons of Saudi Arabia, and the Mambas of Mozambique few weeks ago due to injury.

Nigeria’s international friendly against Saudi Arabia ended in a 2-2 draw with goal from Kelechi Iheanacho and an owngoal from a Saudi player.

The three-time African champions however, ended it’s fifteen-match winless run in international football when they beat Mozambique in a friendly, few days after Saudi Arabia game.

Ahead of the world cup qualifier, forwards Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze major doubt as they are currently nursing themselves back to full fitness.

The return of Awoniyi, has now handed Peseiro an option in the attack, where he may have to pair with Victor Boniface or Kelechi Iheanacho.

In a related development, Nottingham Forest’s manager, Steve Cooper expressed excitement having his forward back.

According to Cooper, having a focal point upfront is big boost for the club.

“With the changes of Taiwo coming on, he was only supposed to give us some minutes, but we gave him a bit more,” the gaffer told Forest TV and was quoted by Daily Post Nigeria.
