Gomez Helped Me Adapt In Germany – Osimhen

Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen, has confirmed that Mario Gomez helped him adapt in Germany when he signed for VFL Wolfsburg npflupdates exclusively reports.

Osimhen started his career at a Lagos-based football academy namely, Ultimate Strikers Academy.

The Nigerian drew media attention to himself after impressing at the FIFA U-17 World Cup tournament in Chile. At the tournament he scored 10 goals to finish as the highest goalscorer.

In 2016, Osimhen committed to a pre-contract agreement with VFL Wolfsburg. On 5 January 2017, he officially signed a three-year deal until June of 2020.

His stay in Germany was marred with injuries, amid other challenges. Coming from Nigeria, the European weather also affected his stint in Germany.

Speaking about his days in Germany, the 24-year-old admitted German legend Mario Gomez helped him adapt.

According to a tweet at the official verified Twitter handle of football entrepreneur Frank Khalid, Osimhen admitted life wasn’t very easy for him at Wolfsburg .

“At Wolfsburg, it wasn’t easy, and not only because of the climate. It was my 1st experience away from home, practically in another world. And Mario Gomez helped me at every training session. He gave me suggestions, told me what to do in order to avoid mistakes…”

At Wolfsburg, Osimhen featured 14 times with no single goal to his game. He was loaned to Belgian outfit Sporting Charleroi in the 2018/2019 season.

He later joined Lile Olympique Sporting Club in the 2019/2020 season. At Lille he scored, 13 goals in 27 appearances.

In 2020/2021 season, the Nigerian yet again switched sides by joining Napoli in a club’s record transfer.

Osimhen is the current highest goalscorer in the Italian Serie A with 21 goals in 23 appearances.

He is on course to guiding Napoli to its ever first Scudetto title in three decades. He helped SSC Napoli to reach its first ever UEFA Champions League quarterfinal.

The former Olympic Eagles forward is currently injured, and is expected to be on the sidelines for at least two weeks.
