In a recent report by PUNCH Nigeria, the 53-year-old stated he was very happy, stressing that the 24-year-old forward has the ability to win the Ballon d’Or.
“Very happy,” Amunike said when asked if he was happy to see the former Olympique Lille forward win the CAF POTY.
“It’s shows that he didn’t relent despite the setbacks, he continued to work hard. I’m happy for him and I believe he can be a contender for the Ballon d’ Or if he puts in more efforts in his game. He’s becoming that great player that we saw in him nine years ago when we first saw him. He can win it again next year but like I said, hard work and consistency will be key to that.”
Speaking further, Amunike who helped Nigeria win gold(in men’s football) at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, remains upbeat the Super Eagles can win the 34th edition of AFCON.
