Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro has just in time submitted a 30-man list for the AFCON qualifier fixture against Sao Tome and Principe to the NFF npflupdates.com understands.
Speculations spread last week that contract talks between Jose Peseiro and the NFF (Nigeria Football Federation) has broken down. And as such, will mean the Portuguese’s contract will not be renewed.
According to recent reports, Peseiro is among the highest earning national team coaches in Africa with his $70,000 per month salary. And the NFF has said it can no longer afford to take care of the salary, citing financial difficulties.

But a recent report by a Nigerian sports media giant, Completesports, the Portuguese remains the coach. And has even gone ahead to submit a 30-man provisional list to the NFF ahead of next months AFCON dead-rubber qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe.

“I can confirm that Peseiro is still our national coach and will be in charge of the Super Eagles against Sao Tome on September 9 in Uyo,” a source quoted by Completesports Nigeria.
“He has submitted a list of players for the game in line with FIFA’s regulation that the invite must reach the respective clubs of the players at least 15 days before the game.
“He couldn’t have picked the players if he won’t be in charge of the team.”
According to the report by Completesports the coach “has also spoken to the players and the majority of them have confirmed their availability for the match.”
“The coach is happy coaching the Super Eagles and I am optimistic he would accept the pay cut to lead the Nigerian team to AFCON next January,” he continued.
In addition, the source advised the entire public to ignore the trending talks that Jose Peseiro has been sacked.
“All these talks about sacking Peseiro and his being replaced by Eguavoen, Finidi or Salisu are not true. The NFF and Peseiro are still negotiating and I am very sure they will reach an agreement soon.
“Nigerians should ignore all the rumours regarding who will handle the Super Eagles because Peseiro wants to continue,” he added.
