Julius Aghaghowa tips Super Eagles to win 2023 AFCON

A former Super Eagles forward, Julius Aghaghowa, is convinced that Jose Peseiro has the necessary gadgets to excite the 2023 African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) npflupdates.com reports.

Julius Aghahowa who has a trademark of celebrating his goals with a back-flip was part of the Super Eagles squad at the 2002(Korea-Japan) FIFA world cup tournament.

Aghahowa in a recent interview with News Agency Nigeria(NAN), believes the Super Eagles can challenge for honours at the competition. But that can only be achieved if they get their acts right and stay committed to the course.

“The players are in Europe which is easier because everybody is playing the same style, but coming to Africa to play and vie for major tournaments like World Cup qualifiers or AFCON, we are not going to have it easy,” Aghahowa told NAN and was quoted by Daily Post Nigeria.

According to the former Shaktar Donestk forward, Super Eagles need to consider every game to be a difficult encounter. And stay focused, that way they can be glorious.

“Our players need to have it at the back of their minds that it will be difficult to match and be well prepared. Once they sort that out, the rest will be history.

“The players can do it, and I believe in them, but that commitment and resilience that the game is a must-win should be added to their mentality,” he added.

In a related story, Bayer 04 Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface has set his sights at the 2023 AFCON.

The 22-year-old told the media that it’s his dream(and that of other players) to come home and represent their country.

“It is the dream of every football player from Nigeria to represent their country and win a trophy for the country,” Boniface told DW.

“So, we’re looking forward to the next AFCON.”
